Adam Klocek

Conductor and cellist, winner of the "musical Oscar " - the Grammy Award 2014, described by Krzysztof Penderecki as „one of the most promising conductors of the young generation” conductor and violinist belongs to the group of outstanding artists of his generation. In 2004 the artist won a competition for the conductor - assistant position of the director of Wrocław Philharmonic and the “Vratislavia Cantans” Festival Maestro Jan Latham – Koenig. From 2006 he held a position of the General Manager and Artistic Director of the Kalisz Philharmonic, and since 2011 he has been the Artistic Director of the Young Polish Philharmonic.

His performance on the International Music Festival „Ermitage” in Petersburg as a conductor of the National Ermitage Orchestra was described by one of the most popular Russian journals “Niezawisimaja Gazeta” as “heaven’s gift” Adam Klocek`s interest and skills were noticed by Jerzy Maksymiuk who nominated him for his assistant. When Klocek was 10 years old, for the first time he conducted the Warsaw School Music Orchestra from Miodowa street. Right after that, he performed by the side of Maestro Maksymiuk conducting many philharmonic and student orchestras. However, he decided to focus on violoncello career. As a prizewinner of many prestigious competitions e.g. in Poznań, Köln, Munich, New York, prizes and scholarships (C.M. von Weber, Interlochen Center for Arts, European Union Radio-Television EBU), he performs in the most important music centres. Kolcek’s concert schedule of the last few years included invitations to take part in the first performance under the conductor Penderecki Concerto Grosso, the Europalia Festival, opening the VIII Lutosławski’s Forum in the National Philharmonic, the USA and Japan tour. For his premiere recording of “Concerto Grosso” with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by A. Wit, the artist got “Fryderyk 2002” prize. In January 2003 he took part in the “Krzysztof Penderecki`s Year” opening night gala in the National Philharmonic. In September 2004 together with Sinfonia Varsovia, he performed the first performance of a cello concert which was written by Krzesimir Dębski especially for him. Leszek Możdżer and Adam Klocek`s duet was described by BBC as “sensational”, and their CD had a bestseller status in 2005. Both of the artists had the honour to be the only invited from the world of the classical music to perform during the TVP Culture anniversary gala. Adam Klocek had a contract with the Universal Music. The musician plays on the Antonio Stradivardi`s instrument from 1717.

The impuls to start working as a conductor again, was contact with one of the greatest conductors in the XX century – Carlos Kleiber. Klocek received recommendations from Jerzy Maksymiuk, Krzysztof Penderecki, Janos Furst and Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach. During his work, he had the opportunity to work with almost all Symphonic Orchestras in Poland including Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Chamber Orchestra, National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, Baltic, Podlasie or Wroclaw Orchestras. Between 2007 – 2009, he was a guest conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra in Arizona (USA). He has co-operated with such artists as: Shlomo Mintz, Heinrich Schiff, Valery Afanassiev, Krzysztof Penderecki, Witold Lutosławski, Randy Brecker, Boris Pergamenschikow, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, Sophia Gubaidulina, Freddy Kempf, Sayaka Shoji, Wanda Wiłkomirska, Jadwiga Rappe, Leticia Moreno, Kałudi Kałudow, Pierre Amoyal, Elmar Oliveira, Julius Berger, Gilles Vonsattel, Ivan Monighetti, Richard Hyung-Ki Joo, Naomi Rachel Kudo, Avri Levitan, Dimitry Vasiliev, Leszek Możdżer, Waldemar Malicki, Krzesimir Dębski, Włodek Pawlik. He permanently cooperates with Zbigniew Preisner (e.g. movies “Beautiful Country”, “ Woman in Berlin”, “Funeral”, “Preisner Voices”). “Preisner Voices” CD (SONY Music) with his contribution has received triple platinum status.

Klocek is the Artistic Director of International Festival „Multimedia Amber Road Festival” and the International Music Festival „ All Word’s Sides” in Puławy.

Released in the 2012 album Night in Calisia recorded with the world-famous jazz trumpeter Randy Brecker was awarded Jazz Album of the Year in 2012 and Hit of the Year 2012 by Rzeczpospolita magazine. The same album received a Grammy Award in 2014, obtaining the status of the double platinum.

As a lecturer he teaches at the Music Academy in Krakow. Is an an author of chamber, symphonic, and movie music. In 2008 he was honoured by the honourous membership of the Russian Composer Association.

On 2012 he was called up for the Deputy Artistic Director in Czestochowa Philharmonic (till 2020). In October 2013, he received the Medal of the National Education Commission. In August 2014 the Minister of Culture awarded artist Silver Medal Gloria Artis. In 2016 he received the Award of the President of Częstochowa City in the field of culture for lifetime achievements in the field of music.
